fated

by Laja Field of LajaMartin

Riding the edge of duality, Fire (as a personified two-person character) is a conduit to explore the extremes that exist within ourselves and our reality. In a world where we destroy as we create, hypocrisy is staring us boldly in the face asking, “will there ever be a breaking point to enact real, palpable change?” “On trial” for earth’s apocalyptic inferno, Fire defends themselves by questioning the systems that set the trap for this inevitable annihilation in the first place. Hopelessness, exhaustion and rebellion launch the character(s) into a state of chaos while a deep desire for a new kind of freeing future develops and arises from the ashes.

Special thanks to Sylvie and Meghann for your ambition and talent, creating with a collective who's mission involves shining light on female choreographers has been special and empowering.

"The movement is visceral, hard and hitting. It almost feels dangerous with its depth and grit. Fire lights up the stage in a duet of lifts and falls, with an R&B feel and sequences that almost resemble breakdancing."
